Scaling With Media Buys

I did a webinar earlier today with Greg Davis who is an expert at media buys and shared some of his tips. I had the wrong mic on when I first started the webinar so I sound like I am talking in a phone booth. I quickly fixed this.

Raising Money For Cancer Care

A few months months ago my family decided to raise funds for my son’s cancer hospital. I tapped into my marketing lists by asking my subscribers to purchase CPA Quantum, which was a course showing people how to get online traffic from a variety of different sources. I expected to raise $10,000 in a week, but my list responded fairly quick to this cause and we managed to raise the $10,000 in about eleven hours.

My five year old son Shaan, presented this check to the cancer hospital and we indicated that we wanted the funds to go towards gifts and items for the children who are still in the hospital for cancer treatment. Here are a few pictures from the check presentation.

You can see in the above picture that Shaan is signing the check and then presenting to the Director of Pediatric Oncology and his clinic nurse.  As you can see, this was a lot of fun for Shaan.  The hospital was literally stunned when we told them that we raised the funds in just eleven hours. This is an example of the power of the Internet and what can be achieved in a short period of time.

One of the things that I learned from this fundraising experience is that we as marketers who have been blessed with success online should take a social responsibility and raise funds for noble causes.  I know that a lot of my friends are involved in fundraising (i.e. Amish Shah and Mike Koenigs with Just Like My Child Foundation) and I look forward to continuing to tap into my lists to help others around the world.

I sent an email to my list about a new marketing program that I will be starting at IMStealth.com and my primary purpose for starting this membership site is to raise funds every month for various causes. Stay tuned for more information about this new site in a few weeks.

Learning To Let Go

One of the biggest problems with trying to build up an online income is that time is finite.

With everyday activities (i.e. work, kids, school, etc.) taking up the majority of your waking hours, you may find that you don’t have as much time as you would like to work on your online activities.

Or you may have a lot of time to work, but you still end up making very little money to show for your efforts. That is even more frustrating.

I am also pretty sure that you don’t want to become a slave to your computer and spend 14 hours a day trying to make money online.

The sad reality is that most people are spending countless number of hours trying to make it work.

You may have very well fallen into this same pattern and there are consequences that come with that such as neglect of your family and poor health.

When I look back at my Internet marketing career, I have realized that I have wasted weeks or even months working on projects that yielded very little results or income to show for my efforts.

I have also realized that I had a serious problem of “letting go.”

What I mean by this is that I should have let go of futile projects long ago rather than tried to make them work.

For years I have been beating a bunch of dead horses.

There are many reasons why you may also be working on useless projects everyday with very little results.

* Maybe you bought a $2,000 course and are convinced it will EVENTUALLY work for you and that is why you continue to do it even though you hate it.

* Maybe you have a passion for a particular topic and are convinced that you will eventually make money with it.

* Maybe you have invested so much money into a project, that you will not give up until you at least get your investment back.

I recently decided to stop working on a project that I have spent that last 11 years trying to make it work.

Yes, that is ELEVEN years, so I am one of those types of people who had a serious problem letting go.

I finally made this decision a few nights ago after thinking how much money I have spent (over $50,000) and the countless number of hours I have put into this particular project.

This decision came after I did a “Return On Investment” calculation on my work hours and I want you to do the same exercise.

I want you to mark the time you spend on the computer for a typical day and see where you are spending your hours.

Here is an example:

Check Email 30 minutes
Write a Niche Article 60 minutes
Add PPC Keywords 30 minutes
Visit IM Forums 15 minutes
Work on Auto Insurance web site 15 minutes

You should do this for an entire week and then take all
the revenue for the week and assign it to each activity:

Check Email $0.00
Niche Articles $50.00
Add PPC Keywords $30.00
Visit IM Forums $0.00
Auto Insurance web site $0.00

So if we were to measure this over an entire week:

Email – $0.00 / 2.5 hours = $0.00
Dating Article – $50 / 5 hours = $10.00
Add PPC Keywords = $30.00 / 2.5 hours = $12.00
Visit IM Forums – $0.00 / 1.25 hours = $0.00
Auto Ins web site = $0.00 / 1.25 hours = $0.00

Trust me. If you do this exercise, you will see where your time is getting bogged down. In this example of a 10 hour work week, 25% of it was wasted answering or checking email that yields zero revenue.

If you are spending too much time answering customer support emails, then why not create a FAQ section to help reduce these emails?

The key here is to reduce your work time and use this time on activities that have results. Or better yet, use this time to work out or spend time with the family.

I mean, that is the whole point why we are all trying to making money online, right?

Let me know your comments.

When Life Throws You A Curveball

It all started with a limp. My wife and I thought that our four year old son (Shaan) was having growing pains when he was complaining about pain in his lower left leg.

On April 8th, 2010, my world was rocked when my son was diagnosed with Leukemia, which is a blood cancer.

Childhood cancer is extremely rare and since there was no history of cancer in either of our families, this hit me like a freight train going 1,000 kilometers an hour.

There were over a million questions racing through my mind such as what, where, when, why and how?  There is no reason why leukemia happens in children and in some cases, babies are even born with it.

They immediately started chemotherapy treatment on Shaan and started looking at what specific type of Leukemia had started in his body.

Thank God he was diagnosed as having Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), which is considered a “good” blood cancer in terms of treatment. The cure rate is as high as 90% with proper treatment.

I cancelled all my travel plans and Internet marketing activities. I cancelled my trip to System Seminar in Chicago. I cancelled my presentation at the Magic Bullet Seminar and dropped out of Jeff Johnson’s “Traffic Voodoo” course as one of the content providers.

I also cancelled my MobiBlueprint product launch.

Nothing seemed to matter to me anymore.

I stayed with my son every day and night since he was admitted on April 5th and after 43 days of being at the hospital, we both came home yesterday.

He has a long road ahead of him with an additional 22 months of treatment, but the prognosis looks good as he is now in remission.

Some of the things I learned from this experience:

1. No more spending 10 hours in front of the computer each day. Life is too short to spend in front of a monitor all day.

2. Money doesn’t mean much without health. Health is the real wealth.

3. No more complaining about paying taxes. Health care is free in Canada and the care that was provided for Shaan can’t be matched in terms of quality.

4. I need to restructure my business. As soon as I stopped working and disappeared, my employees were left twiddling their thumbs.

5. Charity. If the wealthiest people in the world just gave up 10% of their assets, it would solve problems such as world hunger. It is time for all of us who have been blessed with wealth to start giving more.

If you are a parent, I hope you NEVER have to go through this experience and if your child ever complains of any small aches or pains, get it checked immediately.

Shaan is a fighter and he will come out of this stronger.

Take care,
